Tavata (Verb type4)


  1. (transitive + accusative) to meet
    Tapaan hänet teatterin edessä.
    I'll meet him/her in front of the theater.
  2. to meet up (to meet by arrangement)
    Kun ensi kerran tulet kaupunkiin, meidän pitäisi tavata jossakin.
    The next time you come in town we should meet up somewhere.
  3. (transitive) to find, to catch
    Kun saavuin kotiin, tapasin hänet nukkumasta.
    When I came home, I found him/her asleep.
  4. (intransitive, usually + illative) to touch, to meet, to feel
    Pää tapaa jatkuvasti kattoon, kun se on niin matala.
    My head keeps touching the ceiling since it's so low.
  5. (transitive, + partitive) to touch, to fumble
    Kuulin oudon äänen juuri kun käteni tapasi ovenkahvaa.
    I heard a strange sound just as my hand touched the door handle.
