Concrete postpositions
Concrete postpositions identify where something physically exists in relation to something else. This connects objects that are in generally stable or unmoving locations.
Alapuolella postposition
Usage: Below or beneathe

Alla postposition
Usage: under, underneathe or just before (temporal)

Usage: In front

Keskellä postposition
Usage: In the middle, amid, among, between

Oikealla postposition
Usage: On the right

Päällä postposition
Usage: On top of

Sisällä postposition
Usage: Inside, within

Sisäpuolella postposition
Usage: On the inside of

Takana postposition
Usage: Behind

Ulkopuolella postposition
Usage: On the outside of

Postilaatikko on talon ulkopuolella. | The mailbox is on the outside of the house. |
Lentoasema on kaupungin ulkopuolella. | The airport is on the outside of the city. |
Välissä postposition
Usage: Between

Talojen välissä on puita. | There are some trees between the houses. |
Ruokakauppa on postin ja pankin välissä. | The grocery store is between the post office and the bank. |
Tapaamisten välissä on viikko. | There is a week between meetings. |

Vasemalla postposition
Usage: On the left

Kirkossa morsiamen vieraat istuvat vasemmalla puolella. | In the church the bride’s friends and family sit on the left. |
Vierellä postposition
Usage: To the side of
Similar to Vieressä but typically identifying movement between objects.

Talon vierellä kulkee polku. | A path runs next to the house. |
Vieressä postposition
Usage: Next to, beside
Similar to Vierellä but typically identifying generally stable or unmoving objects.

Yläpuolella postposition
Usage: Above

Usage: Above, over

Ääressä postposition
Usage: At, by
