Range between numbers

The way to explain the numerical range for when something begins and ends.

When indicating the range between two numbers, such as when specifying dates, the first number utilises the elative locative case to denote the from value while the second number utilises the illative locative case to denote the to value.

Written number ranges can quickly get quite long in standard Finnish, and while they aren’t commonly written out in full, the benefits of condensing them when spoken can be quickly seen. Listed below are a few examples in standard and spoken Finnish:

0-10

  Yhdestä kymmeneen
• Spoken:
  Yksi viiva kymmenen

1500-3000

• Standard:
  Tuhannesta viidestäsadasta kolmeen tuhanteen
• Spoken:
  Tuhat viissataa viiva kolmetuhatta

999-9999

• Standard:
  Yhdeksästä sadasta yhdeksästä kymmenestä yhdeksästä yhdeksään tuhanteen yhdeksään sataan yhdeksäänkymmeneen yhdeksään
• Spoken:
  Yheksan sataa ysikyt yhdeksän viiva yheksan tuhatta yheksan sataa ysikyt yhdeksän
• Condensed spoken:
