Panna (Verb type3)


  1. (transitive) to put, set, place
    Pane kirja pöydälle!
    Put the book on the table!
    Panimme ikkunan kiinni.
    We closed the window.
    (literally, “We put the window close.”)
  2. (transitive) to send (to = illative (of the third infinitive)) (make someone go somewhere)
    Panin lapsen nukkumaan.
    I put the child to bed.
    Isä pani aamulla lapset kouluun.
    Dad sent the children to school in the morning.
  3. (transitive, auxiliary) to have or make someone (do = illative of the third infinitive)
    panna alokkaat punnertamaan ― to make the rookies do pushups
  4. (intransitive) to start doing (+ translative (of the verbal noun))
    Pane juoksuksi!
    Start running!
  5. (transitive) to deposit (put money or funds into an account)
  6. (transitive + partitive) to brew (make beer)
    panna olutta ― to brew beer
  7. (vulgar, transitive + partitive) to fuck, screw, shag

    We fucked all night long again.
