Mennä (Verb type3)


  1. (intransitive) to go (move; proceed; extend (from A to B); lead (of a path); turn out; be given or allotted)
  2. (transitive + partitive, no subject, third person) to take, pass, spend, go (time, resources, etc.)
    Hyllyn kokoamiseen meni tunnin verran.
    Assembling the shelf took an hour.
  3. (+ third infinitive in illative) to go (and [do])
    Miksi sinä menit sellaista tekemään?
    Why did you go and do that?
  4. (colloquial, + illative) to fit
    Montako litraa siihen menee?
    How many litres can you fit in it?
    (literally, “How many litres go in it?”)
    Synonyms: mahtua, sopia
  5. (colloquial) to do, be good enough
    Synonyms: käydä, menetellä
